Abaco Inshore Fishing Report and Forecast: August 2014

Abaco-inland
[dropcap]T[/dropcap]he hot month of August is a very exciting time of the year for the fishermen of The Bahamas, it’s the opening of the “crawfish” season. South Abaco Adventures will be doing a little of “crawfishing” for the first couple of days in August but our target will be on the flats for bonefish, permits, tarpons, snappers and the barracudas that are always there.

Bonefish we will lure with 6- to-10 pound spinning gear and 8- or 9-weight fly rods with small pieces of conch meat or shrimp on the spinning gear. The toothy critters with its sweet taste of meat that is always lurking on the flats and goes by the name of “the barracuda” will be targeted with 15-pound, spinning gear tipped with light green lures.

The inshore waters will be trolled for cubera snapper, amberjack and yellow jack in 10-to 15-feet of warm water that the month August brings. We will use red and black skirts to lure them with.

I hope that you will take the time to come visit us in Sandy Point to enjoy what we have to offer during 2014. Complete packages can be offered ranging from ground transportation to accommodations to meals during your South Abaco stay. I can be reached via email: tony@southabaco.com if you have any questions or need further information regarding our South Abaco inshore fishery.
