[dropcap]W[/dropcap]ell, we enjoyed a mind-blowing run of swell in late September and early October, with various lows and Hurricane Joaquin delivering the goods. Rebuilding efforts will continue for some time on the islands hardest hit: Long Island, Crooked and Acklins, San Salvador and Mayaguana. Local relief efforts are worth a quick commendation as Nassau, Abaco and our own Eleuthera and Spanish Wells stepped up to the plate. Part of the effort was inspired by remembering how bad off we were after Andrew (in 1992), as one Gregory Town local mentioned on Facebook.

And now, November. One of the Commonwealth’s windier months, like its predecessor; but the first half of October yielded offshore and/or light winds. Based on that, and the continued dominant El Nino pattern (thanks Weather Channel), we may enjoy lighter than normal winds this month. Getting swell is not a question of if, but when, and you can count on solid north swells and even a late-arriving tropical system to pump in rideable waves on at least a few occasions.

Looking to combine a surf trip with a half marathon or 10k run event? Check out the Bahamas Half Marathon on Nov. 22 in Nassau. I ran the 10k last year and hope to better my time this year, all while getting lighter so my longboard doesn’t sink as much below me!
