[dropcap]I[/dropcap]t was no accident Jack Johnson (who recently visited Eleuthera!) scored the “September Sessions” surf movie some years back. September in many parts of the world, especially the northern hemisphere, turns on, and surfers will be licking their chops after what has been a pretty quiet summer. However, with a quiet storm season don’t count on too many tropical systems. Water temps feel plenty warm to fuel these spinning low-pressure systems but my best guess is it will remain a below-average year for the number of storms. Tropical systems can shoot swell into our island chain from anywhere from a southeast to northeast direction, and of course slow-movers are the best. And the great thing about September is even if hurricane swells don’t show up we start transitioning into looking to the north for swells, as the first few cold fronts of the year should begin pushing off the eastern seaboard.

Another September bonus is with the right size swell and systems that can pulse in from a variety of directions keep an eye on those ‘mysto’ spots that you’ve always thought might work if they only had the right conditions. Be prepared for some size, but also many head-high days. Water temps: warm!

Please consider supporting reEarth’s campaign (http://www.savethebays.bs/community-partners/re-earth/) to shut down and disallow new captive dolphin facilities in the Bahamas. Dolphins should roam free, so you can see them, like we sometimes do, surfing our local breaks with us! They are our surfing brethren. We’re all mostly taking from the ocean, be it fish or waves, so be sure to help our ocean remain a healthy, wild and vibrant place!
