The air temperature is still pretty warm and the days are getting shorter. This means that the waters surrounding the Biminis will start getting cooler after a long hot summer. The fishermen and the fish will appreciate that! Bonefishing the flats will continue to be excellent through the month. The slowly cooling water will bring more fish onto the flats during the day, especially as we get towards the end of the month and into October. “Going deep” is still a good tactic especially for the larger fish. One thing special about September and into October is that it is a great month for permit. While catching permit year-round is the norm, September is particularly good. Fish will average in the 25- to 30-pound range. Tarpon, jacks and feisty barracuda will be in the mix as well. One “blessing” about September is that it is typically very calm and the waters are like a mirror most of the time. If you want to venture to the nearshore reefs, there will be plenty grouper, snapper, mutton fish for your dining pleasure. Come and enjoy the slow pace of Bimini this fall. You won’t be disappointed!
