As is the case in the rest of the Bahamas, expect plenty of wahoo in Bimini waters during February. Fish will average in the 40- to 50-pound range, but there will always be a chance for a monster! Local anglers and visiting sportfishermen recommend zig-zagging between 120 to 450 feet of water from Bimini to Ocean Cay. For those who are not die-hard wahoo fans, look for dolphin to begin showing. Finding weed lines and other floating debris will increase the odds of hooking up. Scattered tripletail is also likely. It is not uncommon for a few blue marlin to show early, as well as an occasional sailfish, amberjack or kingfish. Deep dropping for yellow-eye and queen snapper should guarantee a great meal for the entire crew.

Bimini Big Game Club’s sixth installment of the Wahoo Smackdown is February 19-21. Visit biggameclubbimini.com for details or an entry form.
