Grand Bahama Offshore Fishing Forecast – May 2013

WahooWahoo are still here in numbers. Proof? Joe Rieger was fishing on the Bombo last week and landed three ‘hoo that weighed in around in the neighborhood of 45 pounds. High speed trolling around White Sands was the ticket. Dark colors and the color red were hot. Almost all the bites were on the short baits 90 feet from the rod tip. The week before I had some spring breakers out and wahoo kept them busy during a bumpy day off of Memory Rock. Live bait and rigged squid have been the weapons of choice. Slow trolling rigged squid can be such a great experience as you can see most of the bites. Mutton snapper are cooperating with anglers in the West End area.

May is a great time to start your dolphin fishing off West End. There is much less pressure on the dolphin in this area and the lack of traffic makes for a beautiful fishing experience. Tommy Rolle has been very successful bonefishing this month and is ready for the spring season and should improve as we move into May with warmer water on the flats. By the way, the wahoo steaks were wrapped with bacon and filled with cream cheese on the grille. Yum! See you in West End.
