Thank You, Capt. Mark Wilson!

MARKWILSON

If you are an angler located anywhere East central Florida then you are probably aware of our nearshore cobia fishery. Every year as March approaches and the azaleas are in bloom anglers dust off their spinning gear, load up on chartreuse buck tails and make a beeline for Port Canaveral, Ponce Inlet or Sebastian Inlet. Here they target their way up and down the beaches in search of the notorious brown bombers (cobia). I have personally experienced epic days catching cobia off the backs of swimming manta rays the size of Volkswagens and then I have also spent all day riding around the ocean with nothing to show for it. It’ can be a finicky fishery and one that requires good applicable information. What I mean by this is I have learned much of what I know from others that have truly mastered this fishery. Capt. Mark Wilson of Pure Fishing Inc and a Brevard County resident is at the top of this list. On March 24th at the N. Chapter meeting for the Florida Sport Fishing Association (FSFA), Mark spent the evening sharing his knowledge with everyone who attended. It was a packed house with lots of good questions and detailed information. Mark shared tips, tactics & techniques that have served him well over the years catching cobia. He also spent time sharing what not to do from personal experiences.

The FSFA would like to thank Capt. Mark, who can be reached at www.CaptMark.com, and Pure Fishing Inc for his time and detailed information. The FSFA is central Florida’s longest tenured fishing club founded in 1968. They host two monthly meetings which are open to anyone who would like to attend. There are both North and South Chapter meetings each month here in Brevard County which take place on the second and fourth Tuesday the month. S. Chapter Meetings are held at the Lagoon House on US 1 in Palm Bay and N. Chapter Meetings are held at the Veterans Center in Merritt Island.
