July and August Costa Rica Kayak Fishing Forecast

July and August around the Nicoya peninsula means the green season. It’s a big green light for surfers. The consistent south swell will give you chances to surf 2 or 3 times a day. Fishing in the middle of the green season is all about patience. By this time of the year the rivers will be flushing lots of fresh water into the ocean reducing the temperature close to shore. This seems to attract yellowfin tuna and hopefully a lot of action close to Cabo Blanco is going to happen.

As we said, big swells will keep us off our normal of fishing grounds occasionally. When conditions are good to go, we will be finding some very hungry, big fish. Jigging expeditions are our recommendation, the biggest fish of the year are normally caught during July and August.  In the past months of July and August we have hammered the yellowfin tuna, sailfish and amberjacks. We also catch big roosterfish on jigs and lots of mackerel tuna.

This green season is going to be a special one, it’s the first anniversary for Coastal Angler Magazine in Costa Rica and is something to celebrate with more pictures and good articles. From Sea Kayak Adventures we would like to thank CAM-Costa Rica for supporting kayak fishing all around Costa Rica and wishing them many more years of good fishing and good stories.
