Fly Tying

By Paul Sinicki

The Capital District Fly Tying Class is an 8 week class starting January 11th – 7:00 – 9:00pm at the Saratoga Spa State Park Office and is not just for beginners. For non CDFF members the class cost is $75.00 and it is one of the best deals around. For the class you will need your own tools and that info is covered in week 1 as well as how to start the thread and tie a few knots. You will also receive 14 different kits with enough materials to tie a minimum of 5 flies (value minimum $70.00), a book to help with how to place materials on a hook ($20.00) and raffle items for doing your homework. This just made it the one of the best bargains around.

The main objective is to teach you how to place materials on the hook. There will be 2 different instructors teaching their favorite style of flies each class. We limit the number of students to a maximum of 10 per instructor and Floor walkers will be there to help answer questions and help with the different techniques used to apply the materials. No fly tier ties the same way. When you come to the class with the rest of the flies taught at the  previous class  you will receive a raffle ticket for the raffle items. The raffle items can be materials to help build your collection for future flies or other items. Some of the instructors even donate materials from their own collections.

The space is limited and is on a first come first serve basis. There are several ways to find out more about the class. They are as follows go to WWW.CDFLYFISHERS.ORG, e-mail CDFLYFISHERS@NYCAP.RR.COM (in the subject line say fly tying class), or call Paul Sinicki – 885-8257 (if no answer, please leave a message).

Gift Certificates are also available; this can be a gift for life.
