Get Off Your Beaten Path “Your Mother is Bored with Brunch”

mothersday

Yes, someone finally said it out loud, we Mothers are bored with brunch and we want some excitement on Mother’s Day. Every year I see the same thing on TV, ad’s for Mother’s Day that include flowers, cards, chocolate, and the preverbal brunch so mom doesn’t have to cook that day. Then on the other hand when Father’s Day rolls around, the commercials are so much more exciting, power tools, adventures, kayaking, camping and fishing. Listen up husbands, sons, and daughters, your mom is longing for adventure and some excitement. We want to have fun too, we want to laugh, get dirty, create memories, and maybe even catch our own dinner.

Every Mother’s Day my kids and I sit down and figure out what type of adventure we can plan for the day. A few years ago the kids and I went fishing on the Double Eagle boat out of Clearwater on a half day fishing trip. We caught so many Grunts (Grey Snapper) the kids could hardly lift-up the stringer for the picture. Another year we drove up to Rainbow River located in Dunnellon, Florida and kayaked down the crystal clear waters for a relaxing 3 hour trip.
If you really want to hit a home run this Mother’s Day, there’s a great new adventure called ‘glamping’, yes, glamping. It’s a combination of glamour and camping. When you’re glamping there’s no tent to pitch, no sleeping bag to unroll, no fire to build, just fun and adventure. Whether you choose to glamp with a tent, yurt, airstream, hut, villa, or treehouse, it’s a fantastic way to experience the great outdoors without sacrificing luxury. Say what you want but once you try it, regular camping just won’t be the same. I will be glamping for the first time this Mother’s Day weekend at Westgate River Ranch & Rodeo in Central Florida. I can’t wait to tell you all about it when I get back and I hope to see several of you moms out there.

Now let’s get local, there is so much to do in your own backyard, such as; horseback riding, canoeing on the Peace River, taking an airboat ride on Lake Okeechobee, or checking out Roland and Mary Ann Martin’s Marina. The Peace River is true to its name, it is a serene, slow-moving river with few signs of civilization. You can see Red-shouldered hawks soar high above moss- draped cypress trees; watch turtles slide into the water as a paddler drifts by; see deer and turkey feed in the palmetto thickets; and if you’re lucky a black bear may wander to the river’s edge to cool off. Another gem in your back yard is Roland and Mary Ann Martin’s Marina and Resort, it is the # 1 Florida bass fishing location in the world. Lake Okeechobee is the most famous big bass lake in the country and it produces some of the best largemouth bass, blue gill, and speck fishing you can find. Now tell me doesn’t that sound a little more excited than Brunch?

So dust off the backpacks, pack a picnic, grab some bug spray and sunscreen, and make some plans to show your Mom/Wife how special she is. I challenge you to treat the most important person in your life to a day of adventure and create some memories. Please email in your photos and short stories from this Mother’s Day Adventure to info@OkeechobeeCAM.com and we will select and announce a Mother’s Day Adventure Winner for a cool prize pack.
