October should offer some great fishing in our central Florida lakes. We’re told that some good size Specs (mixed in with many large Shell Crackers) are showing up early this year due to the high water levels. Those reports are coming in from Lakes Haines and Rochelle here in Lake Alfred. Daytime Spec fishing in Lake Haines using bright colored jigs has had the best results. For those of you who don’t have a boat . . don’t let that stop you from an enjoyable day fishing. Right here in Lake Alfred there are (7) nice fishing piers on various lakes that provide a wonderful place for you and your family to fish.
Bass fishing on the North and South Winter Haven Chains has been very good. At our RTB Thursday Night Tournaments, we are seeing many Bass in the 7-9 lb range. On September 8th, we weighed in (6) Bass over 7 lb. Our feature photo shows BIG BASS winner, Harry Linsinbigler, who recently brought in a 9 lb/9 oz beauty while fishing Lake Shipp. Best lakes for Bass right now seem to be Lakes Summit and Shipp (South WH Chain) and Lakes Haines and Rochelle in Lake Alfred. Recommended “Best Baits” are . . Booyah Lipless Crank Bait in Royalty Color and Bass Assassin Boss Shiners in Assorted Colors using a weighted hook. If you’re after the BIG ones . . Those baits are proven winners!

The 18th season of Ron’s Tackle Box Weekly Bass Tournaments is in full swing! Each tournament has an entry fee of $30.00/Boat for a (1) or (2) man team and run from 6:00 to 9:30 PM each Thursday until the end of October 2016. Prizes are awarded for BIG BASS and 1st, 2nd, 3rd Place categories.
