Offshore Fishing Forecast: November

Here we are again heading in to the cooler months of the year. Football is in full swing, the leaves are changing, and some people are even starting to migrate to hunting. Don’t get in a hurry there is still a lot of fishing left to do.

The big amberjack have started their march to the shallower waters with reports of catches at the 70 ft mark; the up side to this is you only have to fight them up from the shallower water; the down side is they are not whipped as fast. There has been a lot of very large snapper still being caught and released the photo opportunities are incredible. Live bait is still the hot ticket. Ocean Springs Marine Mart and the Biloxi Boardwalk live bait seem to be able to keep up with the demand. On my last trip out to the deep water we had long time clients and friends, Mark and Robin Boos, from Garden City Kansas. This was a special trip in many ways. Their daughter (Suzie) had just returned from deployment in Afghanistan with the “Sea Bees”. She was very proud of that, but she was glad to be back
and on the water. Her parents wanted her to catch a really big fiSh because she missed their last trip out. Her uncle had came for his birthday and caught the biggest fish he had ever caught, a huge king.

We dropped live croakers down to the bottom, reeled up 5 cranks, and “BAM” she was hooked up. Now picture this a young girl about 5’6” maybe 115 lbs. jacked up on an amber jack doing all she can to stay in the boat much less reel, but she wasn’t letting anyone give her any relief her words were “I got this so don’t touch it.” After about 30 minutes we finally had color, then 5 minutes later we pulled it over the side. What a hog! This fish went 98lbs. and was 5’2”long. Needless to say she didn’t stop smiling the rest of the day.

Fishing trips like this are the reason I do what I do. Great guest and great fishing create experiences I will always treasure. I wouldn’t want to be anywhereelse in the world doing what I do.

That’s it for now, remember, keep you lines wet and your eyes on the horizon
