We had some really good spec fishing in early January. Chris Howard, Joey Howard and Wade Fulgam had some really nice catches of specs and a few bass and bluegills while fishing the north end of the lake using minnows. All my local bass anglers have been catching some nice bass as well. Most are using live bait but a few die-hard artificial bait fishermen are doing pretty well too. With this nice warm weather some of the bass are already starting to spawn. Jim and Jimmy Fleming from Prattville Alabama caught a few catfish while they were here over the holidays.
February should be another good spec and bass month. Look for the specs to gather in the deeper areas around Big Jones Creek while the bass will start moving in to the shallower areas to spawn. I look for the bass to start spawning pretty heavy in February especially with this nice warm weather we are having. The water is a little lower than normal but the conditions are great.
