August 2015: Tim Moore Outdoors

There has been no shortage of stripers in the 26″ range for Tim and his clients this year.

By Tim Moore:

Despite the fact that most of June and July consisted of small fish, the fishing was at least consistent. But, there are finally some bigger fish around. The late arrival of squid has prompted some bigger fish to enter the Piscataqua River and Little Bay. I have been spending a considerable amount of time fishing the upper Piscataqua and Little Bay areas, but I expect Little Bay to begin slowing down as the water gets warmer.

August is also the best month of the year to catch black sea bass along the New Hampshire coast and into the Piscataqua River. Getting to good black sea bass spots in a kayak can be tricky, but I have a few fishable spots. I fish around slack high and low tide, when the current is at its slowest. My favorite jig is a 1.4 Elite Deluxe from Daddy Mac Lures. You can tip it with squid if you want, but you will likely just feed the cunners. I gave up using bait when the 1.4 Elite Deluxe came out, it works that well. Look for structure in 30’-60’ of water and make sure your jig stays on the bottom.

We have plenty of availability for kayak fishing charters, but the earlier you book the better your chance will be of getting your choice of dates. The striped bass and black sea bass fishing should stay good all month with early morning weekdays being the best days to fish.
