[dropcap]T[/dropcap]he Junior Division of Treasure Coast Caster’s first 2016 bi-monthly ‘From the Shore’ fishing tournament took place on January 31, with 18 members fishing and a total of 11 fish caught and released.

Dayton Franqui was the first to weigh in a fish, a 1.3-pound sheepshead followed by Kaleb Kneip, who actually couldn’t bring his fish to the scale—a 20-plus pound stingray! It was Kaleb’s first stingray. Angler Amanda Daher followed with a puffer, Cameron Hicks brought in two catfish and a small snook, new member Annsely Sugg caught a nice size snook, Jake Lee weighed in three puffer fish, and Dillon Furiato, also weighed in a puffer. All fish were released.

RESULTS

1st Place: Cameron Hicks, 5TH grade, Weatherbee Elementary, Ft. Pierce
2nd Place: Jake Lee, 4th grade, Liberty Baptist, Ft. Pierce
3rd Place: Dayton Franqui, 2nd grade, Oak Hammock, Port St. Lucie
Biggest Fish: Kaleb Kneip, 5th grade, Bayshore Elementary, Port St. Lucie.

Along with his trophy and goodie bag, Biggest Fish winner Kaleb Kneip received a Fishing Center gift card, which was donated by Treasure Coast Caster volunteers Pat and Gwen. For the last four years, Kaitlyn Ward has held the record for the biggest fish, a 4-pound redfish, caught at a Junior’s tournament until this tournament. It might be quite a while before anyone breaks Kaleb’s new record!

New Treasure Coast Caster members Jason Sessana and Annsely Sugg were welcomed to the group.

Thanks are extended to John and Theresa Gilson for their tournament assistance. They have been very big supporters of the Treasure Coast Casters since the group’s beginning.

The next Junior Division “From the Shore” tournament will be March 20th.
