Hopefully all the cold fronts will be gone by April 1, and if so the inshore bite should be red hot for snook, trout and redfish.

For snook you will want to try the Fort Pierce Inlet and the local bridges. Live baits, like pilchards, pigfish or mullet would be my first choice.  Look for the trout and redfish to be wondering around the same areas.  Some of the hot spots should be Herman’s Bay, Torpey Road and the docks along Indian River Drive. A live pilchard or a shrimp fished under a popping cork will give you a good shot at a gator trout or a nice slot redfish.  Along the channel edges, the snapper bite should improve around the full moon.  All you will need is a ½ oz. bottom rig with a #2 hook and some medium size live shrimp.  One of the hot spots should be the channel edge from Harbor Branch north to the Mooring’s Channel.  And, for the lucky anglers there may be some tripletail showing up around the markers and taking live shrimp fished on a ¼ oz. troll-rite hook.  In the surf look for a good whiting and pompano bite for anglers using shrimp, clams or sand fleas.
Capt. Joe Ward has been fishing the inshore waters of Fort Pierce for over 50 years.
