Lure of the Month: The Jig

I was asked the question one day, “if I was stranded on an island and could only choose one lure, what would it be”? After giving it some real deep thought, I realized it would have to be a jig! If you think about it, there is no other lure that can be fished so many different ways and in so many different situations. Obviously you can jig it vertically if you’re in deep water over some structure much to the delight of a hungry snapper, grouper, permit or even cobia. You can cast it out like a bullet and retrieve it slowly while jigging in just a couple of feet of water and catch trout, snook, redfi sh just to name a few. You can also slow it down even more and make it rest on the bottom to imitate a crustacean to entice a strike from a flounder, pompano or a bottom feeding redfish. You can pitch it under docks or into the shadows of a mangrove shoreline. You can even put it under a popping cork if you need a break to drink cool refreshment. You can troll it behind the boat at most speeds and cause violent strikes by jack crevalles, bonita or mackerels. Now if you want to have even more fun, you can rig your tail on an unweighted hook and use it as finesse bait or rig it weedless to get it into those spots where the big snook hide out. The truth is there are as many ways to fish a jig as your imagination can come up with.
So now that we have concluded that you need to have some jigs in your tackle box, let’s discuss why I believe they should be Slayer Inc. jigs. Slayer Inc. was founded in 2007, and they have quickly positioned themselves as the premier manufacturer of high-end fi hing tackle for the inshore saltwater angler. All of their lures are XXX Rated – Xtra sharp, Xtra strong and Xtra durable lures. It’s the small details that give Slayer Inc. the edge when it comes to lure design. Super strong and sharp hooks, triple coated fi nishes, recessed eyes, a brilliant color pallet, along with various sizes and shapes make Slayer Inc. lures the strongest most versatile on the market today.

The S.S.B (Sinister Stick Bait) is a twitch/ jerk bait that is made to be convertible. You can use it with a weighted hook to make it weedless or you can cut it to whatever size you desire and rig it with a jig head. Hop it, twitch it or bump it on the bottom. This bait is deadly on flounder, trout, redfi sh, snook and tarpon on the fl ats. Th e S.S.T. (Sinister Swim Tail) has been designed with Slayers INC. “Flow Motion” technology for maximum action and vibration. These baits swim and wobble like mad whether they are slow rolled, twitched, yo-yo’d or just a steady retrieve, enticing even lazy fish to strike! They can be rigged with either the predator or destroyer jigheads. They also work great when rigged on their Penetrator series hooks in a 3/0 or 4/0 size. The S.S.T. will draw aggressive strikes from both salt and fresh water species.

I spent last weekend fishing with my wife, testing not only my patience but also both of these great lures by Slayer Inc. If my survival depended on just one lure, you can be certain Slayer Inc., would make it. Now I just have to decide which of the two I like better.
