[dropcap]T[/dropcap]he MCAC Reef Fund will host its 10th Annual Reef Builders Tournament on Saturday, July 9th, 2016. Tournament proceeds help to fund the artificial reef program in Martin County.
The Twisted Tuna in Port Salerno will serve as tournament headquarters and registered anglers will compete for more than $10,000 in cash rewards, targeting cobia, dolphin, grouper, kingfish, snapper and wahoo. Prize categories include Top Junior Angler, Top Charter Boat and Top Private Boat honors.
Kick off festivities begin on Friday, July 8th, at 5:30 p.m. with a mandatory captainâs briefing. On Saturday, the weigh-in and dock party begins at noon and an awards celebration dinner begins at 6 p.m.
The most recent MCAC project deployed was the Hailey Glasrud Reef. With the focus on creating fish habitat, the Hailey Glasrud Reef creates 224-feet of new habitat.
âWe have a very dedicated board of directors and planning committee,â says John Burke, president of the MCAC Reef Fund. âWe have already created many new marine habitats and look forward to continuing our mission.â
Last year, one of the tournamentâs funnier highlights was the award of the $1,000 first place grouper category prize to Richard Debvec for his eight-ounce grouper, caught aboard the Safari 1.
