The winds and cool fronts of February will dictate where and how you fish this month. There will be plenty of bluefish in the surf and in the inlets along with Spanish macs on the inshore reef line with the major concentration down at Pecks Lake. A fast retrieve and shiny lure is the ticket for a bent rod. Hopefully, the pompano bite will turn on with colder conditions and clean water. Try drifting the area around Hells Gate with a Docs Goofy jig or jig and shrimp/combo for some action. The local bridges will have black drum and sheepshead around the pilings and bridge fenders. Good bait is shrimp, clams or fiddler crabs. Look for croaker and redfish in the deeper holes of the St. Lucie River. Depending on how low the water temperature drops will determine if snook feel like eating or being lethargic. First Light jigs slowly crawled through the shadow lines at night can be very productive, even with low water temperatures.  The trout and redfish bite will be good in the deeper cuts and channels. A live shrimp or D.O.A. shrimp is hard to beat. On the warmer days let the sun heat up the shallows and work the potholes for good action on trout. Get ready for the cobia moving off the beaches and wrecks and reefs. Keep a Cobia Slayer jig ready to launch or live bait ready to pitch near your target.

Keep the waterways clean and wear your Bullfrog.
