[dropcap]W[/dropcap]hen fishing in July you need to beat the heat by being on the water early and in your fishing zone by safe light. Be on the lookout for rolling tarpon ease up on them and shut down the engine and wait for the fish to show and pitch a bait (crab, greenie, or mullet) in front of the roll and wait for the pickup. No need to go to the Keys for big tarpon, we have them on the Treasure Coast. Look for yellow water off the beach north of Jensen and it will be big schools of jacks ranging from 20- to 40-pounds playing follow the leader in big schools. Any kind of big popper will get them excited if they haven’t been beat up yet by other anglers. Snook will be at the inlets and near the jetties/reef line creating future stock for our angling future. Handle with care and make it a quick release. Throw DOA Shrimp in Holographic color for trout and reds on the flats north of Herman’s Bay. Work the potholes and flip under docks and mangroves where there is some shade and the water is a cooler. Don’t forget the night bite on the docks lights for trout and snook. Be stealth and work the older looking docks with lights for action. You will be surprised at the action on the lights at night. Watch out for the channel markers at night they will sneak up on you. Keep the waterways clean.
