[dropcap]S[/dropcap]pring is about here and you know what that means, longer days on the water! The beach will be choppy for a while, but it’ll start to lay down later this month. Snook fishing will start to improve along the beach along with bait. There has been a lot of snook caught this year along Walton Rocks Beach up to the boils area, mostly because there is a lot of rocks and the water is warmer because of the outflow of the power plant. When targeting snook, low light is the best. In the surf you can’t beat a Yo-Zuri Crystal Minnow in the color combo of black and silver. Live croaker will work well too, but with so many sharks around, that will be your big catch. Snook will be around all bridges and under dock lights, so night time fishing will be best. Moving tide is a must with snook fishing and you have to be there because bite might only last 30 minutes.

Trout are hungry and a shrimp under a popping cork can’t be beat. Wading the flats is the best way to get them. Walton Road to the power lines, as well as the Middle Cove area and Sailfish flats are great places to hook up. Redfish will also be there. Top water at first light will produce. Soft rubber baits, like Monster 3X and D.O.A. C.A.L. lures, work great.

It’ll be the last month for pompano. Santa Lucea Beach has been hot. Go to the left, where the water is deeper and no rocks, to place your baits. Cut clam, sand fleas and shrimp work great. Jacks will begin their spawn this month. Hold on! There will be monster jacks up to 40-pounds to throw to, and that makes for a great fight. Until next time, tight lines!
