Holland Area Fishing Report: August 2014

Fishing has been hot the last couple of weeks. Kings are starting to show up in good numbers and the perch fishing is starting to go strong. Keep an eye on the water temperature. This will play a big role on fish location. The best baits have been eight inch paddles on coppers and meat rigs mid-day. Also some spoons have been good early, but it has been hard to run them because of the fleas in the warm water. Best flies have been raptures oceans and no-see-ums. Pickle and blue bubble glow have also been hot from Dreamweaver. Meat rigs have also played a big roll on the mid-day bite. Big water tackles uv on ice has been hot along with everything else in the uv. Also big weenie has had some hot baits with the spotted dick being one of the best sellers the last couple of weeks. Dreamweaver has also had some hot meat rigs the last couple of weeks.

Perch fishing has started to pick up. The best water has been in that 30 to 40 degree range but everything changes with the water temperatures. Best baits by far have been perch pounders with spikes and blades with spikes. Also don’t forget minnows, some of my biggest fish come on minnows. The outlook for August looks good as long as the water stays stable and the thermoclines start to set up. Kings should start to stage up and the perch should be on the feed. Just remember water temperature plays a big role on the location of both the kings and the perch. We can give you good day-to-day reports just give us a shout or stop in at Gold Coast Outfitters.
