Holland Fishing Report: October 2015

The lake has finally gone into fall mode. With the waters now cooling down into the low 50’s the fish are starting to hit the piers and starting to make there fall runs. For now we have been fishing the pier heads up into Lake Macatawa in the shipping channel. Best sets for us have been plugs and big paddles. Some trout are still coming in that 90ft range, but they will start to thin out as they make there fall run. We are not seeing big numbers but averaging 3 to 5 fish a morning for kings. Also pier anglers are catching kings off both arms early in the morning casting glow, moonshines and K.O. wobblers. Glow green being some of the best colors. We will also have to keep an eye on the perch fishing and also the walleyes. Gill fishing should also pick up as the waters cool down.

For the up coming month, we will start to see a good push of kings in the Kalamazoo in the lower ends at first. Best methods on the lower end are back bouncing skein or with bobbers. Some of my favorite methods are either casting cranks or trolling cranks. One of my favorite colors has to be fire tiger for kings. We will also have to keep an eye on the steelhead, and that will all depend on water height and water temperatures. Get out if you can, fall is a great time to fish.
