Pere Marquette Fishing Report: February 2015

Pere-Marquette-Fishing-Repo

The Pere Marquette River is running low and cold at this time. The fishing has been tough, with ice floating down and shelf ice along the banks. We did see a little two day warm up as I’m writing this. Some snow did melt and the shelf ice started to let loose making things a mess. The water now is up a little with good color to it.   If you do manage to get out and wet a line.

We’re fast approaching spring now, so fish numbers should increase as water levels come up and warm.  Look for spring steelhead to start to enter the system at the end of the month through March.  Try some  Clown Eggs in more natural colors. With the cold, clear water my focus would be on Nymphs.  Hex Nymphs and small stoneflies can work really well this time of year along with Green Rockworms. For the swing smaller and heavier, try smaller baitfish patterns in Olive or Tan with a little weight for a much slower presentation.  If interested in a fly-fishing trip or a weekly river report check us out at outfittersnorth.com.
