It’s Trout time on the Pere Marquette River. June is an exceptional month for chasing resident Brown and Rainbow Trout on this watershed. It’s one of my favorite times of the year to be a Fly Angler in Northern Michigan. June is the month we fish the Dry Fly.   With so many insects hatching on this fertile river, the Trout start to look up for their meals. June starts off with Sulphur’s and Gray Drakes; these Mayflies become really active in the evening hours.

Later in June, the lights go out and the big Michigan Mayflies, Hexagenia Limbata, show themselves. This can be an all night fishing frenzy. With bugs everywhere and big trout rising. Make sure to bring lots of bug dope, heavy tippet, and tape measure, this time of night is when the big Trophy Brown Trout come out to play.
