One of the key mistakes where I see novice kayak anglers making a mistake is with their anchoring methods. Traditional anchors do have their place, but aren't necessarily the best plan. Traditional anchors can be clumsy and noisy to deploy. Stakeout poles tend to be the best method because it's fast and stealthy.Guest ColumnistApr 29th, 2015
What’s the point of devoting money and manpower to extensive oyster reef restoration if we can’t eat them? Simply put, oysters are hardly a one-trick pony. Here’s a quick rundown of the benefits of our local oysters, even though we can’t slurp them down with Tabasco and a cold beer.Florida Oceanographic SocietyApr 29th, 2015

May marks the return of great diving conditions to the Treasure Coast as water temperatures rise and the seas lay down. Hunters know grouper season opens this month too. May is also a good time to prep equipment for the upcoming summer dive season.Steve WoodApr 28th, 2015
The spring bait run of mullet and glass minnows is starting to look good. The pompano fishing is pretty good on the beach and so-so inside the river. Dolphin have been a good bet offshore with the normal spring run of these guys. Sailfish as well have and will be in good numbers in May.Brian NelliApr 27th, 2015
Lake Okeechobee is doing its normal thing right now. Bass fishing is good, speck fishing is good, shellcrackers are starting to show up, and bluegills are right around the corner. As some might say, “It don’t get no better than that!”Capt. Eddie PerryApr 27th, 2015
The 80 to 100 foot reefs are holding loads of grouper this month. Chum bombs and live baits will work. Drop a sabiki rig down on some of our artificial reefs for cigar minnows, sardines, and pin fish. When you drop one of these baits down, hang on!Capt. Bill StewartApr 27th, 2015
When the winds calm and the near shore waters clear, anything can happen just off the Sebastian Area beaches. Kingfish, cobia, bonito, jacks, sharks, tarpon, permit, Spanish mackerel, sailfish and dolphin are all known to shadow the bait pods that are usually numerous within a few miles of Sebastian Inlet.
