Treasure Coast ‘From the Shore’ Fishing Report and Forecast: February 2015

Snook season on the east coast is open and this is a great time to target these fish. Winter time the snook are around the bridges, flats, inlets, and docks. Docks with lights is a great place to target these fish, which will sometimes stack up 20 deep to pick off baits that travel by. They will be hanging just where the shadow line is. You want to be quiet when you approach, cast as close as you can to the structure bringing it slow back into the shadow line. Fish the bridges the same way. Look for lights and fish the shadow line. Sebastian Offshore Fishing Report & Forecast: February 2015

The more traditional method of spotting rays, working their way down the coast, will probably be the most effective way to put your limit of cobia in the boat. Chartreuse jigs with rubber tails are a mainstay and I like to have a few rods rigged with just a hook, ready to cast a live bait in front of a stubborn fish. In search for a challenging bottom fish, other than grouper, I've been targeting big tile fish.Feb 3rd, 2015

Sebastian (Inshore) Fishing Report and Forecast: February 2015

February has become my best inshore month for sea trout and redfish since the grass beds of the central Indian River Lagoon have diminished in recent years. Both trout and reds make their way into the shallow backwater bays in search of warmth and food in the latter part of the winter and early spring. Sight-fishing can be excellent in these areas where winds are blocked and waters stay clean. Pompano, bluefish, ladyfish and jacks are also targets for inshore anglers in February.Jan 28th, 2015

Fort Pierce Offshore Fishing Report and Forecast: February 2015

On the Treasure Coast there are a variety of snapper that are legal to keep and all great to eat. Among these are lane, mangrove, mutton and sometimes even yellowtail snappers. The lane and mangrove snapper will be holding close to the edge of structure. You can hook them up on a smaller live sardine or dead baits such as a sardine plug, squid or a chunk of ballyhoo. Even a nice hand-picked shrimp will be appetizing to these fish. Jan 28th, 2015

Indian River Lagoon Fishing Report and Forecast: February 2015

The trout bite picks up very nicely in February. 2014 proved to be the year of big trout in the Fort Pierce area. I anticipate that 2015 will be another big fish year around the area. CAL jerk baits and Deadly Combos are exciting ways to trout fish with artificial lures, while live shrimp on popping corks are the ol’ standard way to trout fish out on the river. Redfish can be found in shallow flats around mangroves and islands. Jan 27th, 2015

Stuart Deep Sea Fishing Report & Forecast: February 2015

Once a fishing window opens, cobia and snapper will become the preferred target species of near coastal reef fishermen. Schools of cobia will continue to stream through our reef zones in depths of 50 to 100 feet and will fall to dead and live baits deployed atop reefs, at all depths throughout the water column. Live baits such as grunts, greenies and sardines are some of a cobia`s favorite snacks, however a hungry "cobe" will eat just about anything it can fit in its expansive mouth— 30- to 50-pound main line, with terminal tackle that consists of 50- to 80-pound leader, tied to a 5/0-7/0 hook, will get that cobia to the boat.Jan 26th, 2015

Stuart Offshore Fishing Report & Forecast: February 2015

February should provide continued sailfish action along our six and eight mile reefs offshore Stuart, Florida, an increase in dolphin catches, and bottom fishing should be on the upswing from what was already a great winter. As soon as the weather turns and we get a few warmer days in February, expect the dolphin fishing to get good again this year since we are experiencing a similar weather pattern. Jan 26th, 2015

Stuart Inshore Fishing Report & Forecast for February 2015

Snook season opens February 1st and they should be hungry. Find the bait and you will find the fish or be patient and they will come. Try snooking around the Sewall’s Point dock lights with Storm Swimbait or D.O.A. Shrimp #368 under the lighted docks. Use the current to push the lures along the pilings and deep under the docks. Don’t play with these snook or they will break you off. Tight drags and minimum #60 leader. Work the dark, unlit areas too for snook hanging off the shadow line.Jan 26th, 2015
