[dropcap]Y[/dropcap]ou know we all have a sweet spot we like to fish one that almost always yields some fish. Today I have the right tide and the perfect morning to get out to one of my Flounder spots and make some magic. I have been waiting on this Sunday for a while today was the day my 6 year old daughter landed her first Flounder.
So the reason why I wanted to wait for this spot on the right tide means she had a great chance at hooking up with a Flounder. We warmed up the day with a few blue fish just to get her in the groove once she was ready for Flounder.
We headed out in my Native Ultimate FX 15 Tandem kayak for our day on the water. This is my favorite kayak to fish out of with her. We started last year on some ponds for pan fish a great controlled area for getting her use to fishing for the front seat of a kayak.
So the plans for this trip have all rigs tied and ready. We decided to fish live bait so I put the live bait rigs on the rods before we left the house. Mom packed all the snacks and water to get us through the morning. Everything was loaded and ready to go. Off we went to the ramp, all I had to do was keep her in the truck drop the Ultimate FX 15 since all the gear was loaded in the bottom of it. Park the truck and we walked down to the kayak.
We had fun catching bait. She called out where the schools of bait where. I think she has more than 20/20 vision since most of them were out of reach of the cast net. So we focused on some that where closer not 100 feet away. Made bait and we where off fishing in all it was a great morning on the water with my daughter she was a trooper and did not want to leave at the end of the day.
The moral to this article is take your kid kayak fishing it is definitely doable. For me the preplanning was key. I did all the hard work on the front end and when we got to the water it was time to fish. Nice and smooth and she had a great time hanging out with me on a hot Sunday morning in the river. Will we do this again you bet it was a blast helping her catch fish. Sometimes sitting in the stern seat and helping is more rewarding than catching fish yourself. Make it easy on them and they will love hanging out with you on the water.
