Palm Beach Kayak Report: Oct. 2015

Atlantic Coast Inshore

October is my favorite month of the year. The mullet run should be in full effect and well Halloween of course. Using top water plugs and shallow diving jerk baits will work well imitating the mullet. Snook, trout, tarpon and redfish will be working the schools that move in the river. Focus on working your bait around the outside edges of the school making it look like an easy target. If you want to just target snook and tarpon hit the beach during the early morning hours with the same baits.

Atlantic Coast Offshore

The mullet run and cooler weather also has an effect on the offshore species. Species like dolphin and balckfin tuna will start to make their way in closer to shore. During this time I prefer to use mullet as it is easy to catch and it matches the hatch. You can add kingfish and sailfish to the species that have no problem taking down a mullet. For Dolphin, Blackfin and Sailfish I prefer using finger mullet and the kings will like to destroy the larger mullet. It should be a fun month so get out there!
