Freshwater Fishing Report: June 2014

Greetings! June is here and fishing is great!

[dropcap]L[/dropcap]et’s start with Lake Okeechobee. Fish are on the outside edges. Find deeper water on the inside and you will find fish as well. Flipping has been very productive. Gambler Baits, such as Big EZ’s, EZ Swimmers, Burner Worms, and pitching Fat Ace’s are working in the grass. In the deeper water on the Lake, rattle traps, jerk baits and spinner baits are the way to go. Don’t forget live shiners. The levels at the Lake are 12.82, so when you’re running around be careful.

Heading south from the Lake on State Road 27 on the west side you have the Holy Land where fishing has been great. Let’s start shallow: Frogs, Ace’s, and Super studs are my favorites. Let’s go deeper: Gambler Big EZ’s, jigzilla and worming are the way to work it and don’t

forget top water.
To the east you have Brown’s Farm. It has been on fire. Sawgrass Recreation Park is still producing 100 fish days with a few of those being really nice ones. Techniques mentioned above will work great.

Everglades Holiday Park is a fresh water haven. Just pick your poison. It’s been red hot! Big worms, Gambler Big EZ’s, EZ Swimmers, Burner Worms, pitching, flipping jigzilla, and Fat Ace’s are all working well. Both Sawgrass and Holiday Park have boat rentals to get you out on the water if you don’t own one. Don’t forget your urban canals. I go all through town and look for “honey holes” that don’t get the pressure of some of the places mentioned and can be off the chain. As mentioned in previous fishing reports, what you have confidence in is your best choice for bait. Wherever you decide to fish, be careful, courteous and please be gentle with the fish you release so they can grow, reproduce and live for another day. May God bless you and U.S.A.
