Hobie Kayaks Pro Team to Give Daily Kayak Fishing Seminars at Vero Beach Boat Show
Hobie Kayak Pro Team members Drew Mixon and Christina Weber will be in the Orchid Island Bikes and Kayaks booth at the Vero Beach Boat Show April 11-12, 2015, giving daily kayak fishing seminars.
Drew has fished Florida waters for over 40 years and developed techniques to put great fish in the boat. Drew’s first love is inshore fishing and he has a passion for the spotted monster of the flats–the seatrout. Drew has caught countless trout over 8 pounds, and several fish over 9 pounds, with his personal best at 31-inch sow that was released alive. But, offshore fishing at the professional level is old hat to Drew as well. Taking all the knowledge and skills learned over a lifetime of technical angling, Drew has been able to take those lessons and excel in the kayak tournament world. Having patiently raised two boys into fine anglers, Drew has developed skills to catch fish, but also skills to help anglers of all experience levels enjoy their time on the water. Drew has captained at the professional level on the redfish tours, pro kingfish tour, and numerous offshore tournaments. With seven IGFA state records to his credit, Drew uses the techniques he developed in his tournament angling, to help anglers be more efficient and effective on the water. Drew is known far and wide as not taking himself, or things too seriously. Drew is sponsored by various companies including Orchid Island Bikes and Kayaks, Unfair Lures and is a member of the Hobie Kayaks Pro Team.
Christina Weber is a born and raised South Florida fisherman utilizing the fishing capital to the full extent by fishing 50/50 saltwater and freshwater. For her, kayak fishing happened by accident when she wanted to venture into uncharted waters that she couldn’t reach by motor boat. Over time, she realized that a kayak could take her anywhere, and fish freshwater, saltwater, inshore and offshore all from her Hobie Outback. Now five years into kayak fishing, Christina, her thirst for fishing was no accident. She has been competing in tournaments for ten years, worked in tackle sales for five, and worked at a non-profit to ensure Florida’s fisheries. For Christina, fishing is no accident, “It is my life.”
