Seacoast National Bank presents the 9th Annual Port Salerno Seafood Festival on Saturday, January 24, 2015. This local event, which has been voted two years in a row the “Best Local Event in Martin County” by Scripps Treasure Coast Newspaper’s readers, features seafood and a mix of music, arts, crafts and local business vendors, a Kids Fun Zone, mermaids, pirates and more, all along the historic Port Salerno waterfront.
“There is a reason why the seafood is so delicious,” says Edward “Butch” Olsen, Jr., president of the Port Salerno Commercial Fishing Dock Authority. “We serve the freshest seafood and locally caught fish when possible. The majority of our seafood is prepared by the fishermen and their families. This is truly a family affair, which also features Port Salerno’s finest restaurants.”
Some of the top bands from across the Treasure Coast will entertain the crowds from two stages. Additionally a youth friendly stage as been added to the Kids Fun Zone. Another new addition this year is the Fishermen’s Village and Market showcasing the history of Port Salerno and giving festival attendees an opportunity to purchase and take home locally caught fish.
Festival hours are 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Advance tickets are $5 and available at all Seacoast Bank locations. Admission at the gate will be $10 for adults; children 12 and under are free. Complimentary transportation to and from the event via trolley or water will be provided
A portion of festival proceeds is distributed each year to local charities. This year canned goods will also be collected at the gate for the Salvation Army of Martin County and Love and Hope in Action.
The event attracts 35,000 attendees and takes 600 people (mostly volunteers) to set up, serve refreshments, sell tickets and t-shirts, and perform other supportive tasks. Volunteers and sponsor inquiries are welcomed.
