On the wake of Hurricane Harvey in our area last month, I am happy to report that our family’s residence remained intact. Our hearts ache for all of the families that cannot report the same. It was a very surreal experience to drive around our area and see so much devastation. We know that each of our readers have either been personally affected and/or have someone close to them that has been affected. We pray that our area and our neighbors are able to quickly recover from the damages that were sustained from Hurricane Harvey and that each of you remain patient and strong during this recovery period.
October is National Bullying Prevention Month
National Bullying Prevention Month is a nationwide campaign founded in 2006 by PACER’s National Bullying Prevention Center. The campaign is held during the month of October and unites communities around the world to educate and raise awareness of bullying prevention. This campaign has grown from an initial week-long event to a worldwide effort with thousands of individuals participating in multiple activities throughout October.
Bullying is the use of force, threat, or coercion to abuse, intimidate, or aggressively impose domination over others. The behavior is often repeated and habitual. One essential prerequisite is the perception, by the bully or by others, of an imbalance of social or physical power. More than 1 out of every 5 students report being bullied.
Take action and show that you care about kids being safe at school, while online, and in the community. Don’t be a bully! Stand up and speak out!
