New State Record Spotted Sunfish Caught in Suwannee River

For the third time in less than a year, Georgia has a new freshwater fish state record for spotted sunfish! Josh Forsythe of Homerville, GA (Clinch County) landed a record-breaking 13-ounce spotted sunfish on May 5 while fishing the Suwannee River. Measuring nearly 9 inches, this catch surpasses the previous state record of 12 ounces, according to the Georgia Department of Natural Resources’ Wildlife Resources Division (WRD).

Graig Hale Ties World Record with Massive Red Drum in Louisiana

Graig L. Hale hooked into an unforgettable catch while fly fishing the backwaters near Port Sulphur, Louisiana. Hale landed a 37.402-inch red drum, tying the IGFA All-Tackle Length Fly World Record for the species.

Dropping a GoPro Under the World’s Most Dangerous Fishing Pier

The Okaloosa Island Fishing Pier in Florida is often referred to as the "world's most dangerous pier" due to the high concentration of tiger sharks and other marine life in the area. A video posted on YouTube by Brant Peacher showed a massive tiger shark and "endless amounts of giant sharks" near the pier.  

D.A. Sea Wins 2025 Chub Cay Invitational

D.A. Sea, a 65 Paul Mann run by Capt. Mark Stephens, won this year’s Chub Cay Invitational Tournament. The members-only event was held last month. D.A. Sea released four blue marlin to take home first-place honors. The Invitational is hosted by the popular Chub Cay Resort & Marina Club, located at the southern tip of the Berry Islands in the Bahamas.

Moss Sets World Record with Landlocked Striped Bass on Lake Lanier

On February 10, 2025, Pamela Moss set a new IGFA Women’s  8 lb. Tippet Class World Record while fishing on Lake Lanier in Georgia, USA. Moss landed a  9-pound, 5-ounce landlocked striped bass while fishing under the guidance of Dillon Lancaster. After weighing the fish on a certified scale, she safely released it back into the lake.May 2nd, 2025
