SE Florida Fishing Report: July 2014

[dropcap]J[/dropcap]uly should continue the run of superb fishing! If you can handle the heat, GET OUT THERE AND CATCH SOME FISH.
Inshore is really going off right now. The pilchards and other white baits are all over the beaches. There will be plenty of snook cruising through them. To catch the snook, you can use an array of artificials. Yozuri Crystal minnows, Rapala X-Raps, soft swim baits etc, will all work. If you’re still having trouble getting them to eat, a sure fire way is to sabiki up live bait, and sight cast it to a fish roaming the shorelines. They won’t be able to resist it.

The tarpon are still heading north, so you should have plenty of shots at hooking a few Silver Kings this month. Landing them can be a little bit tougher. Also, there will be juvenile tarpon (10-40 pounders) meandering in those white bait schools.
The piers from Juno to Dania should see a nice mixed bag of fish: snook, tarpon, kingfish, little tunny (Bonita), large jack crevalle, barracuda, snapper, and a few Spanish mackeral, to name a few. Don’t forget about permit fishing in the evenings. They too should be milling around in search of a nice crab to eat.

Offshore should stay fairly steady. Dolphin will still be plentiful. Wahoo in 150 to 400 feet will be chewing on larger sized trolling lures and occasionally show up in your kite spreads. Kingfish will be plentiful in 20 – 120 feet of water. You’ll still be able to battle a few sailfish as well, with the sailfish numbers as high as they are now in Southeast Florida, it’s relatively easy to target them for some fun in the 80 to 140 foot water column.
If you want to catch fish this month by sight casting you better get a good pair of sunglasses. If you can see them, you will have a better shot at them. Swing by one of our shops and pick up a pair of Costa Sunglasses. We got a big shipment in the stores and have a good variety of styles to suit your taste. The Costas are 580 Glass Lens models for men and women. Be sure to check us out on Facebook for the latest fishing reports.
