June 1st marks the beginning of the 2019 Atlantic Hurricane season and it runs through the end of November. Dealing with Tropical Storms and Hurricanes is part of the price we pay for living in paradise. Now is the time to check with your insurance agent to make sure that your policy is up to date and you have the proper coverage in place, just in case a named storm comes our way. Make sure your batteries are charged at all times and that your bilge pumps and float switches are working properly. Don’t be complacent and think we are in the clear because we got hit by Irma two seasons ago. Be proactive and take time to formulate a plan now, so that you are prepared and have a safe place to store your boat when a storm comes calling. If you wait until the last minute, you will most likely be out of luck.
June also brings us some of the best fishing of the year, inshore and offshore. Inshore, tarpon and snook will be thick on the beaches, in the inlets and around bridges. Offshore, the big blackfin tuna and kingfish are here. Farther offshore, there should be plenty of lifter and gaffer dolphin, with a few slammers mixed in. Remember, as we go into summer, the early bird gets the worm! Get out there early and often.
Finally, Happy Father’s Day to all the Dads out there. Hope that you all can get out on the water and enjoy the day with your family.
Keep reelin,
