Gosnold Behavioral Health Takes Part In 7th Annual Charter Cup Fishing Tournament
The 7th Annual Charter Cup Fishing Tournament, sponsored by EJ Jaxtimer Building held on July 12, 2023, at Baxter’s Fish ‘N Chips in Hyannis, MA. The annual fish- ing tournament’s mission is for local businesses and charter fishing boats to come together to raise money for local charities in need of funding.
Since its inception in 2017, the Charter Cup Fishing Tournament has raised over $1.7 million, including $500,000 this year. The tournament gives 100% of the profits raised to participating nonprofits that provide much-needed services, including emergency flights for critically ill patients, physical/mental fitness for people in recovery, programs for physically/mentally challenged adults, and equitable healthcare for the homeless. It also supports kids fighting cancer, early childhood education, addiction intervention and rehabilitation, local law enforcement efforts, at-risk youth programs, affordable housing projects, and affordable healthcare for people with diabetes.
This year, 14 charities took part in the day-long event, including Gosnold Behavioral Health.
Located in Falmouth, Gosnold has provided award-winning behavioral health and sub- stance use treatment, for over 50 years. Gosnold is a nationally accredit- ed non-profit leader in the prevention and treatment of substance use and mental health care. Gosnold offers a comprehensive array of services for adults and their families, community support and education through- out Massachusetts.
“Being a part of this extraordinary event is an absolute privilege. Cape Cod’s is a tight knit community and together we strive to uplift every individual and to nurture the health of the whole community,” said Danae Young, Senior Director of Operations at Gosnold Behavioral Health.
One local business that supported Team Gosnold during the Charter Cup was Beacon Marine Construction, a leader in residential and commercial waterfront improvement throughout Cape Cod and Southeastern Massachusetts. The team at Beacon Marine is committed to deliver- ing exceptional service and handling every job with the same dedication and attention to detail. Co-Owner Jonathan Hagenstein started the company in partnership with longtime friends.
“We have a successful partnership in the work that we do, and a great friendship outside of work,” Hagenstein ex- plained.
Giving back to the community they serve is a big part of Beacon Marine Construction and its culture, so the idea of getting involved in the event and supporting Team Gosnold was a no-brainer for Hagenstein.
“We have been hoping to get involved in the Charter Cup for a couple of years and we were very excited to participate for the first time this year,” said Hagenstein. “We decided to sponsor Gosnold because of the life changing impact the organization has on the surrounding community. It was a simple choice, and we look forward to giving back to the community.”
Gosnold’s mission and work really resonated with Hagenstein when deciding to charter a boat for the team.
“A lot of the issues that Gosnold works to resolve have impacted my close friends,” he said. “I grew up on the Cape when the opioid epidemic was just getting underway and several of my friends and neighbors went down a rough road. Luckily, they were able to come out of it with the help of non- profits like Gosnold, that foster healing and inspire individuals and communities to live healthier lives.”
With the help of partners like Beacon Marine Construction, the event was a successful one for Gosnold. The Gosnold team raised $11,000, money that will be put back into the community by sup- porting Gosnold’s comprehensive programs and treatment options.
“We are fortunate to be in a position where we can give back and sponsoring Gosnold for the Charter Cup is a great way to have a huge impact on the lo- cal community,” Hagen- stein said.
