No Kill Fishing
By Ken Sorensen, Boynton Beach Fishing Club
Brett Fitzgerald, of the Snook & Gamefish Foundation (SGF), and I have been working on a way to capture the interest of anglers to have fun, bragging rights, capture fish data and raise a few bucks for the SGF. Much of the funds raised will support SGF and their important conservation efforts.
SGF developed several versions of free iAngler, iAngler Lite as well as iTournament, Android and iPhone Smart phone and Computer Apps to make logging fish fun and rewarding. Only the angler and SGF know the exact location of the catch.
We came up with a tournament that combines them, hence the 2016 Spring Inshore & Offshore iTournament. We set the fee per person rather than tournament based or money per boat, which puts anglers with a small one, two or three-person boat at a disadvantage in most tournaments. This iTournament is based on points, size and quantity, not weight. We do not have to kill fish only to weigh them and trash them as you see at many tournaments. You simply catch them, photograph them and Submit them, all with your camera or smart phone. We ranked points on inshore species higher to give small boats and inshore anglers an equal chance.
