[dropcap]H[/dropcap]appy New Year everyone!!! Hope everyone had a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Hope the first resolution everyone made was to go fishing more this year! I know it’s one of mine. With the start of the new year, hopefully the weather will start to cooperate and everyone can get out and start catching some fish!! The fall fishing kinda got hit hard with the incoming cold fronts and muddy water from up north. The winter patterns are finally starting to shape up and the fish are wanting to eat. The deep water patterns on slow bouncing or the “do nothing drift” are starting to work. The Mobile river is starting to hold fish in the deep water basins around the shipyards.

Dog, Fowl rivers and Theodore Industrial canal are starting to produce. Mirro Lures or rattletraps slow trolled in the rivers are catching some nice fish. Live shrimp if they can be found fished on a slip cork rig is working on the ledges of Theodore canal and in the Mobile river. Also, the tried and true bouncing a grub along the bottom with a 3/8 or 1/2 oz jighead is also producing a good bite. Just a reminder, if the water is clear or slightly stained, a light colored grub works best. If the water is a little muddy, try a darker grub. Usually the best color for this time of year is the rootbeer with the chartruese tail or the limetruese ghost from Saltwater Assassin. The paddle tail gives good action when slowly bounced off the bottom. Remember also to dress for the occasion, it’s better to peel off some clothes than to freeze. Hope to see ya on the water this coming year!!
