March is a busy month for most anglers along the majestic Mississippi Coast. Buck fever is waining and most outdoor enthusiasts turn their attention to the bayous, bays, and waterways. So far the New Year has been very wet, pushing the mighty spotted sea trout out of their winter heavens a little early. A few areas to try in March for âspecksâ are the lower reaches of Fort Bayou out into Biloxi Back Bay up to Popps Ferry Bridge. The mouth of Davis Bayou and Graveline Bayou will stay consistent during March. Look for the redfish action to heat up with warmer weather, also reds can tolerate more fresh stained water than most other species. The lower Pascagoula River system is at the top of the list for chasing the hard fighting redfish. Pull up Google Maps and locate ponds and bayous that separate East and West Pascagoula Rivers when searching for areas holding reds. March is also the best month for targeting the hard fighting and tasty sheepshead (aka: bay snapper). Catching an abundance of hefty âheadsâ can be done from shore or boat during this month. Any public fishing structure holds barnacle encrusted pilings in which these buck toothed bandits feed on. Fishing by boat, there is no limit to places that may hold groups of sheepshead. One sure area to find sheepshead in March is our beautiful barrier islands. Swarms of fish can be seen throughout the crystal clear water especially around cover that holds line cutting barnacles.
