Let me introduce myself, my name is Brian Joseph Spencer. I really have a great passion for the outdoors. Whether it is fishing or hunting I am always doing one of the two in any of my free time. In the last few years I started to target my favorite fish species, the flounder.
It has taken me awhile to even begin to figure out this fish. Most of the time when people catch them it is usually a happy accident, due to the fact that they will hit the bait and just go to the bottom and then devour it, without any indication that they are there until you set that hook.
One of the key things when fishing for flounder is to work the bottom as much as you can. It is basically like dragging bottom until you feel a âthumpâ âthumpâ, once that happens I open up my bail on the reel and let the line slack. This way the flounder does not feel any resistance and let go. After this occurs I will count to fifteen and the take out the loose line and set the hook as hard as I can, due to the fact that flounder have a tough mouth. I use berkely gulp in chartreuse on a Âź oz jig head. Next article I will give more insight on fishing and gigging for flounder. If you have any questions feel free to email me.
Tight lines and sharp gigs until next month.
