Almost there! – The weather will dictate the next few weeks of fishing. If the cold fronts persist, the trout bite will slow and be in deeper water. If the weather and the water start warming, look for the trout to start moving in over the oyster reefs. Live shrimp has been available most days at local marinas. A simple popping cork rig should get it done in the marsh. Do not stay in spots more than 10 minutes without a bite. Fish the leeward sides of of ponds, bays and lagoons for the cleanest water.
March can be incredible red fishing in the Biloxi Marsh. Best bet should be looking for mullet and shrimp. Fish the tides and use the moving water around points and drains to catch both reds and trout. The fresh water coming out of the rivers will hopefully ease up in the next few weeks.
If the rains and snow-melt up north eases up, look for a wide open bite on the man made reefs off of Hancock County. The biggest black drum of the year will be all over these structures. Carolina rigs with dead shrimp, should get plenty of action.
If you have not done it already, get your boat, motor and trailer serviced. The fishing will go from good to great with the approach of Spring.
