A HUGE 33 inches! I caught this monster while on leave using MoJo rod with a Shimano Stradic CI4 3000 with 15lbs test. I used live shrimp off the bottom in a little creek off the Folly River in SC.

I, of course, threw him back; but catching him was worth every minute of exhilarating fun. While baiting my wife’s line I had the pole I caught him on resting on the deck of the boat (not something I usually do). In a split second all hell broke loose and the pole went screaming overboard. From where I’m standing now, in the picture, I dove the length of the boat into the water and swam, under water, for the rod and reel! I barely got my hand on the bottom tip of the pole when he took off again; I was lucky enough to be able to get somewhat of a grip and hold on enough to surface, catch my breath and swim back to the boat. Though the water was not too deep it was still deep enough where I couldn’t touch the bottom at the time. Once back at the boat I handed the rod to my wife who, because there was slack in the line, began to tell me, as I’m climbing back in the boat that she had both good and bad news. The good news was I just saved us $375 worth of prized fishing equipment and had a hell of a story to tell, the bad news was the fish was gone. Well, she was half right because as soon as the last words slipped out of her mouth the line snapped taut and the drag began to scream! By now the Red was almost around the bend in the creek but somehow I fought him back; it was give and take for like five awesome minutes. When I finally got him to the boat and he saw Crystal, my wife, with the net he took off again and again. When I got him back and Crystal went to net him he barely fit in the net! That was the catch of a lifetime: rod $150, reel $225 … a 33 incher on an awesome day fishing with my best friend…priceless! As you can see I got a little wet – but it makes for a hell of a story.
