[dropcap]S[/dropcap]altwater fishing off the Alabama Gulf Coast has been good. The best fishing trip for half day or less is trolling for king mackerel, Spanish Mackerel, Bonita and Jack Crevalle. Trolling spoons with #2 and #3 planers are good options. I like to try a variety of sizes with the spoons. This fishing should continue into August and beyond.
Amberjack season opens August 1st but could close by mid August. We will know soon. Gag grouper season is open and a few are being caught in deep water beyond 160 feet. Vermillion and white snapper (red porgy) are being caught out about 20 miles. However, these fish have been a bit small.
Offshore fishing for tuna, marlin, wahoo, and mahi-mahi is good when you can find some pretty water. The good water is moving around, in and out.
Deep drop fishing is producing some nice yellowedge grouper, snowy grouper, tilefish, long tail seabass and more. This is some fun fishing and produces some very tasty fish.
