Bluewater Fishing Forecast: March 2013

Spring is upon us finally . I’m hoping the groundhog is right this year. This winter’s fishing on the shelf has been fair when you could make it out with the  weather.

The tuna and wahoo are still the primary targets on the shelf 75 miles out of Biloxi. Chunking pogies and bonito while drifting over the Main Pass block salt-domes should still produce blackfin and yellowfin through March. Bring plenty of circle hooks and leader material because the sharks and king mackerel are as thick as I’ve seen them. The wahoo will continue to be taken around the oil rigs pulling diving plugs and braid marauders. Patience and persistence pay off until you locate them. The bite can turn on and off like a light switch so capitalize on it when it happens.

Good luck!

Tight lines,
