One thing for sure is each season gives us a few new surprises, and with them challenges. It sure seems like things are progressing at a slower pace than normal this year but rest assured its looking like we are in for a lot of fun this August. There is a good amount of bait around from glass minnows to mackerel and even the elusive pogy is being sighted now and then around the harbor. The trick is to get up and see sunrise to get your bait. Be sure to keep a close watch for fish feeding on the surface at day break and sunset. You can have a lot of fun catching fish in the 32-34 inch size feeding on the surface.
Once you get your bait, fish them deep to catch the big ones. The heat waves cause the water temperature to change all the time, and the big bass seek out the cooler spots when the sun is high. If you find fish are getting tough to catch, try lightening up and going with a lighter line to help fool some of the temperamental fish.
