It’s time for the 6th Annual Treasure Coast Waterway Cleanup! This year’s cleanup will take place on Saturday, July 27, 2013.

“We are making it easier to register for the Cleanup,” says April Price, coordinator of the effort. “Our goal is to continue to increase participation. More people equals more trash collected. In our first five years, 4,500-plus volunteers and 1,300-plus boats collected more than 46.5 tons of trash from the waterways of Martin, St. Lucie and Indian River counties,” says Price.

To register, visit www. TCWaterwayCleanup.com and click “Online Registration”, scroll down and complete the form or download the pdf version and mail it in. On the day of the cleanup, when participants arrive to the site of their choice, they will receive cleanup supplies, data collection cards to complete, an event t-shirt, and instructions. Watercraft will receive a commemorative burgee to fly to show they are involved in the cleanup effort. All volunteers will be invited to a “Thank You BBQ” scheduled for August 11th, 2013 at the Fort Pierce Yacht Club. Data collection numbers will be announced at the post-event barbeque.

“This is an “All-hands-on-deck” effort,” says Price. “Both young and old are needed to surpass last year’s effort. This is also a terrific opportunity for students and scouts to pick up some of those precious community service hours.”

Several coastal cleanups take place throughout the Treasure Coast—are all vital to the health of Treasure Coast beaches and shore line. This particular cleanup, however, specifically concentrates on the waterways, spoil islands and area canals.
