Calusa Waterkeeper Seeking Volunteers

Calusa Waterkeeper began in 1995 as Caloosahatchee River Citizens Association (Riverwatch). We were admitted to Waterkeeper Alliance in 2015 as an Affiliate. In December 2016, we achieved full Member status in Waterkeeper Alliance, adopting the new name Calusa Waterkeeper.

Each Waterkeeper around the USA and world has an area of jurisdiction, which they patrol and work to protect and improve. The Calusa Waterkeeper jurisdiction includes the Caloosahatchee River and Estuary, Lake Okeechobee, Nicodemus Slough, Charlotte Harbor, Estero Bay, and the near-shore waters all along Lee County.  We are dedicated to the protection of these areas and their watersheds, through education and promotion of responsible use and enjoyment by all people.

The Calusa Waterkeeper is seeking volunteers to help monitor water quality, make wildlife observations, report illicit discharges, spills and algae blooms. We provide the training and education to enable our volunteers to accurately report problems affecting southwest Florida waters and engage authorities for solutions. If you spend time on southwest Florida waters and are interested in sharing your observations and becoming part of the solution to sustain our water resources, please contact us.
