Coastal Angler had the pleasure of being a part of the Rockingham Fishing and Hunting Expo that took place in Salem, New Hampshire January 11-12. This is expo is currently the largest and longest continually operating sporting expo in New Hampshire. Some of the exhibitor categories that we saw this year included, but was not limited to hunting, fishing, camping, kayaks and canoes, ice fishing, fly fishing, as well as boating and marinas.
While we were there, we had the honor and good fortune of running into two very inspirational people. Sierra Preveza, founder of Childhood Cancer Kids, and Captain Jr. Dunne of the F/V Miss Sambvca. This year they teamed up and held a raffle at the expo to raise funds for Sierra’s organization. Although she may be young, Sierra is the founder of Childhood Cancer Kids as well as a childhood cancer survivor herself. The organization has three main missions: to raise money for organizations committed to childhood cancer research, advocacy, and support; to bring the relaxation techniques of yoga to kids fighting and surviving cancer; as well as raising awareness of the Gold Ribbon symbol for Childhood Cancer to the level of what the Pink Ribbon symbolizes for Breast Cancer awareness. When Captain Jr. Dunne heard about Sierra’s organization, his desire to give back locally inspired him to join forces with Childhood Cancer Kids. He wanted to help spread the word in any way possible, so while promoting his Wicked Jr. Gear at the expo, he held the raffle for Sierra’s organization at his booth.
Wicked Jr. Gear includes short and long sleeve t-shirts, sweatshirts, decals and much more and can be found by visiting www.wickedjrgear.com. Also, if you are interested in supporting Sierra’s mission to spread awareness about Childhood Cancer Kids, you can visit their website at www.childhoodcancerkids.org.
Coastal Angler had a wonderful time being a part of Sierra and Jr.’s story as well as attending the Rockingham Fishing & Hunting Expo and we look forward to going back next year!
Captain Jr. Dunne gave away a charter sponsored by Sambvca Charters ad 100% of all the proceeds from the raffle went to the Childhood Cancer Kids foundation. www.sambvca.com.
