Choosing the Right Sunglasses

March is typically the month were the Trout and big Reds start to show up on shallow flats to start eating. On this typical day I was on a charter trying to get my customers sight cast to a Big Trout. I could see them with my Redtail Optix but he could not with his lower end lenses due to the massive glare off the water. I let the customer borrow my sunglasses with the polarized lenses made with actual glass, and BAM!!! Next thing you know he was casting like a pro. They were on target with every cast from then on. We caught Redfish and trout all morning.

My personal preference is the Redtail Optix glasses in the Laguna style with the amber lenses for bay fishing due to the High Definition lenses and being able to cut through the water and recognize things shallow due to the high contrast. When I decide to go into the Gulf I prefer to use the blue lenses with gray base due to then bright light and full sun situations and being able to recognize the slight difference in colors of water. When I decide to fish South Texas I go with a green mirror with amber base lens due to the grass flats and clearer water down there. These help with being able to see schooling redfish in the shallow grass flats.

Just remember when buying sunglasses you pay for what you get, and the glass lenses may be more but they will benefit you in the long run in being able to see things in the water you could not see with the lower end glasses. My preference are Redtail Optix as they seem to be the best on the market by far. www.redtailrepublic.com for info.
